Betty Hirschmann grew up in the Bronx, New York, earning a 3-year Fine Arts Certificate from Pratt Institute. She then worked as a graphic artist for several years. When her children were in high school, Pratt offered the opportunity to complete a Bachelors in Fine Arts degree, which had not been offered at the time Betty originally went to college. She earned her BFA in 1977.
Since then, Betty has been painting in oils, acrylics and watercolors, focusing lately on watercolors. She credits her weekly painting group at the St. James Catholic Church in Pennington with providing the discipline to continually improve her skills.
Betty has had a solo show at the Merwick Unit Library of Princeton Hospital and shows at other venues in Mercer County.
When she is not painting, Betty can be found helping run Hirschmann Antique Clocks, where she uses her art history background to assist in the restoration of wooden cases and reverse glass paintings.
